The Riyadh government announced Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will be the new vice president of the Council of Ministers as well as Saudi defense minister.
The crown prince has come under intense scrutiny in recent months over Khashoggi's death. U.S. intelligence and multiple foreign leaders have said he was involved in the plot to kill the dissident writer on Oct. 2 -- at the very least, having foreknowledge of the plan. U.S. President Donald Trump has been hesitant to blame the prince, saying there's not enough evidence.
The Saudi royal family has denied involvement in Khashoggi's death.
Saudi Arabia shuffled its intelligence agencies on Dec. 21 so they would better align with international law and human rights.
Other major cabinet changes announced Thursday:
Mansour bin Miteb, Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd, Saleh bin Abdulaziz, Mutlab bin Abdullah and Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz were appointed ministers of state.
Abdulaziz bin Saud, interior minister
Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed, culture minister
Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz, minister of Islamic affairs
Waleed bin Mohammed bin Salaeh, justice minister
Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz, minister of foreign affairs.
Tawfiq bin Fawzan, health minister
Mohammed bin Faisal, minister of state for Shura Council Affairs
