Gunmen kill 3 in attack on Libya's foreign ministry

Gunmen entered the buildings of Libya's foreign ministry in Tripoli on Tuesday, killing three people, authorities said.

The United Nations-backed Government of National Accord told CNN the gunmen were armed with machine guns and the victims include at least one high-ranking official. In addition, 18 were wounded.

According to the Libya Herald, one of the gunmen detonated a suicide bomb, killing himself and wounding others.

No terror groups have yet claimed responsibility, but Libya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Accord condemned the attack.

"These operations will not deter us from performing our duties, practicing and answering the process of political stability and determination needed for one sovereign state for all, a democratic state, a state of law and institutions where there is no place for terrorism and extremism," the ministry said in a statement.
