He’s in a film with Emily Robinson, a New Yorker who, at the young age of 19, managed to do herself up in a silver Sachin & Babi number. The movie about middle-agers trying fertility, adoption, surrogacy, egg donation, whatever to make a baby stars Giamatti, Molly Shannon, Kathryn Hahn. Its title is “Private Life.” Our chat wasn’t. Everybody babbled at once so whoever said what, who knows? The following’s a mixed-up chop suey of our conversation:
“It’s an absolute today real life story — no just made-up film. That’s what’s so great about it. With pregnancy, many people we personally know had the same ordeal. They’ve tried through endless options. Although I, myself, never had girlfriends going through it.” (This I think was from Giamatti.)
Maybe Hahn, who plays the wife, could’ve said: “Today so many magazines do stories and photos about Hollywood actresses making babies, having babies, cuddling babies. It probably increases a reader’s desire for her own baby.”
The scenario’s about a New York couple. The film shot in White Plains. I’m thinking that Shannon, who played something — I don’t know what — said:
“I always go out to see movies in a theater. Even horror movies. I love movies. I also love getting out of the house.”
And somebody said: “A really great scene is Thanksgiving dinner. There’s tension. Fighting. Everyone screaming. Look, this movie’s not about fertility. It’s about a modern family.”
Grass-root moms should see this. And . . . maybe . . . not Michael no-Moore’s ass-root doc.
Please try to pay attention
Even Saturn knows Steven Spielberg’s refilming and Tony Kushner’s re-adapting “West Side Story.” Everyone know Ansel Elgort is the lead? . . . AND anyone know Mr. Spielberg’s a mentor for director Damien Chazelle, 33, who did “La La Land” and now the Neil Armstrong story “First Man”? . . . And everyone know Friday’s film festival centerpiece “Roma” is black and white, subtitled and Alfonso Cuarón’s autobio and that Netflix is looking to snare him the Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar? . . . MORE about “First Man.” Neil Armstrong, stoic, heroic, was almost killed three times. Reclusive, humble, engineering and mathematics major, he learned to fly before he could drive a car. And that — believe me — you don’t get sent up in spaceships if you don’t know what’s going on.
What moms are into now
So, new mommies: Baby whisperer Dr. Harvey Karp recently invented SNOO, a sound sleeper responsive bassinet. Vibrations, white-noise. Serena Williams says it mimics the feel of a mother’s womb. Users are Rachel Weisz, Molly Sims, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Biel.

Jury Duty call. This lady accidentally bumped a fellow juror-to-be’s Adidas sneaker. Oops! It belonged to the foot of gorgeous bearded Jake Gyllenhaal. Calm, quiet, acknowledging her apology with a smile — he’s gone after lunch. Was he dismissed? Annoyed, the clerk barked, “No ma’am, he was selected — now just sit down.”
A nice lady after watching Judge Kavanaugh’s experience in the Senate pit: “The key to success is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”
