The incident occurred in the club's car park, where police cars and emergency services rushed towards an area where flames were clearly visible before the area was evacuated.

"We are dealing with an incident in the vicinity of the King Power Stadium. Emergency services are aware and dealing," Leicestershire Police said.

Srivaddhanaprabha routinely leaves the stadium in his helicopter, which lands in the centre circle on the pitch, after every Leicester home game. It was not yet known who was in the helicopter.

"Hearing that the Leicester City owners' helicopter has crashed in the club's car park," broadcaster and former Leicester player Gary Lineker tweeted.

Leicestershire Police confirmed emergency services were dealing with an incident near the King Power Stadium but have not provided any further details.

"I hope they're OK. Doesn't seem like they have had much of a chance. Just burst into flames," one witness told Sky News.

East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust tweeted: "We are also in attendance and will update when possible."

Srivaddhanaprabha, who owns the King Power company, bought Leicester in 2010 and became chairman the following February. Under the Thai businessman's ownership, Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016.

DRAW WITH WEST HAM

In the match prior to the crash, Leicester avoided a third successive EPL defeat thanks to a late equaliser from Wilfred Ndidi to make it 1-1.

Manager Claude Puel dropped talismanic striker Jamie Vardy to the Leicester bench and the controversial decision looked to have backfired when his side went behind in the 30th minute as Fabian Balbuena scored from a rebound after his diving header bounced off the post.

The visitors, though, were reduced to 10 men eight minutes later after Mark Noble was red-carded for a dangerous tackle on Ndidi.

Vardy came on as a halftime substitute for Rachid Ghezzal and the former England forward wasted two good chances as Leicester laid siege to the West Ham goal.

The home team finally levelled with one minute remaining when Ndidi's long-range shot went in after taking a big deflection off Balbuena.

The match was soured late in the piece when Leicester's Daniel Amartey was carried off on a stretcher, needing oxygen after appearing to get his studs caught in the turf.
