Majid bin Abdulmohsen Al-Hokair, vice chairman of Al-Hokair Group, and Abdul Aziz Al-Hammed, rector of Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University, Al-Kharj, were in attendance.
A glowing tribute was paid to Syed Ahmad Khan, a visionary and reformer from the Indian subcontinent, on his birth anniversary. Khan was the founder of the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental (MAO) College, which later became the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Al-Hokair said: “I am pleased to be among the AMU alumni. Thank you for being a part of the Kingdom’s growth and development.”
Al-Hammed said: “I believe the Indian community is one of the finest and the most hard-working communities we have had in the Kingdom.”
Hifzur Rahman, first secretary, Embassy of India, said: “Sir Syed devoted his entire life for the emancipation of the Muslims of South Asia and for an Islamic renaissance.”
Kazi Mohsin, an AMU alumni from Bangladesh and an Australian national working as a faculty member at King Saud University, made a brief presentation on Khan’s life and the achievements of the AMU.
Syed Mohammad Mutayyab of the AMUAA Riyadh Chapter highlighted the key contributions of Khan, which have enabled the Muslim community to progress in various fields.
“AMU graduates are serving in various capacities and are keen to contribute to Saudi Vision 2030,” he added.
AMU, which is a popular university for Arab students, has long-standing links with the Kingdom. The late King Saud bin Abdul Aziz visited the university in 1955, where he was conferred with an honorary degree.
