This is pretty much the biggest change included in version 8.24.74.4, as Microsoft wants to expand availability of the Android app not only on phones, but also on tablets.
“If you´ve been using the preview builds of Skype on your Android phone, you now also have the access to a version of Skype build specifically for tablets. Check it out and let us know what do you think!” the Skype development team announced today.
Microsoft says that absolutely all tablet sizes are enabled in this new release, which means that Skype for Android should run flawlessly regardless of the dimensions of the display.
There’s one known issue in this update, however, and Android users should have this in mind especially if they want to run Skype on a regular basis. This preview build does not support answering calls from the lock screen, so you need to first unlock the tablet and only then connect with the caller.
"Skype for iPad also updated"
Microsoft has also updated Skype Preview for iPad to 8.24.76.4 with support for Apple’s tablets, and the only requirement in this case is to have iOS 9 or newer installed on the device. On Apple’s devices, users must be part of the TestFlight program to be able to get early builds of apps.
While this is still in preview on both Android and iOS, it shouldn’t take too long before the feature is promoted to the stable channel on the two platforms. Microsoft typically needs just a few weeks to release a new build with features tested in preview versions, obviously if everything goes according to the plan and no major issues are experienced.
You can download the latest Skype Preview for Android using this link, while for iOS, enroll in the TestFlight program to receive it automatically.
