Video game developer DICE and
publisher Electronic Arts are announcing that they are delaying the
launch of their long-awaited Mirror's Edge Catalyst to June 7 in North
America and June 9 in Europe to make sure that they deal with feedback
coming from gamers during the coming closed beta for the free running
title.
The official announcement
explains that the company is using a brand-new online tech to support
the Social play features associated with the title and that they want
the full version of the game to run flawlessly, which means that some
extra tweaks might be required after the underling infrastructure and
mechanics are tested.
Erik Odeldahl, the designer director, working on Mirror's Edge Catalyst,
states "We also want to make sure we have the opportunity and time to
address player feedback from the Closed Beta. That is why we will give
ourselves a bit more time to perfect the game, with a new release date
for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst of June 7th (NA) and June 9th (EU). We’re
confident that these extra two weeks will make sure the game is as
amazing as possible for you the players."
The game was supposed to arrive on May 24, and there
are certainly some fans who will be disappointed about the extra
waiting time, especially if they have not obtained a place in the closed
beta which is running for five days starting on April 22.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will offer a full open-world experience
The new title from DICE is offering a new free
running system which gives gamers more freedom to explore the city of
Glass and to avoid threats, with Faith no longer able to use firearms
but capable of employing momentum to avoid enemies or to take them out
using melee moves.
The beta will deliver a number of core story
missions as well as side quests and all the social play elements that
power the asymmetric multiplayer of Mirror's Edge Catalyst.
According to DICE, they are trying to build on the
core ideas of the original while making it easier and more exciting for
gamers to move through the city and to find new ways to reach apparently
inaccessible places.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will be launched on the PC,
the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony and gamers
can get access to some extra content if they place a pre-order.
