Only three of 58 people arrested so far following sex attacks in Cologne were actually refugees, it’s been revealed.
Migrants had been closely scrutinised after police received 1,054 complaints, including 600 for theft, from people who claimed to have been victims of sexual assaults on New Year’s Eve.
But so far only two people from Syria and one person from Iraq have been detained, although most of the suspects came from countries such as Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

German chancellor Angela Merkel was criticised for her refugee policy following the alleged attacks in Cologne and has since been trying to reassure citizens about her decision to take a lot of people in.
Ulrich Bremer, Cologne public prosecutor, released the statistics on arrest to newspaper Die Welt.
The city’s new police chief Jurgen Mathies added the techniques used on New Year’s Eve probably came from other countries because he hadn’t seen them in Germany.
He also said the attacks were probably not premeditated.
