The Big Apple is recognized by its towering skyscrapers on
the horizon, its hustle and bustle, and its draconian gun laws. However,
boasting firearms legislation that is even more stringent than Chicago
has done little more than make residents of NYC sitting ducks. The SAFE
Act, brutally strict gun legislation put into effect after the Sandy
Hook massacre, makes it almost impossible to be armed in New York City
and limits the number of cartridges allowed in a gun to seven. Thanks to
Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, and the logic of those who
literally cower in fear when the word “gun” is said — unless the word is
followed by the word “control” — New Yorkers are nothing more than the
proverbial “fish in barrels.”
But now, Andrew Cuomo is “outraged” that his gun laws are
failing. A shooting in the gun control mecca of the United States has
left Cuomo’s Empire State Development First Deputy Counsel Carey W.
Gabay badly wounded. Gabay, 43, was shot in the head during pre-parade
events at around 3:40 am on Sunday. A fight on the street saw stray
bullets being “sprayed,” according to Cuomo, all over the place. He’s
now speaking out, and he hasn’t had a change of heart. Cuomo asked for
more gun control in the wake of this shooting.
“It’s personal to me. I know this young man. So beautiful.
So giving. So kind. So unnecessary,” Cuomo said. “I was just with the
family. And the tears and the frustration. And I’m governor of the state
of New York and there’s nothing I can say and there’s nothing I can
do.”
Cuomo continued by saying, “Anyone who doesn’t believe we
don’t need to do something about gun control is delusional. We can
protect the Second Amendment and legitimate gun owners, but we also need
to protect people. How many young, innocent people have to die before
this nation comes to its senses?”
Since laws didn’t stop a shooting, Cuomo’s solution is more laws. How odd that four people were stabbed,
one fatally, around the same time in another street fight gone bad at
this same parade, and Cuomo chooses to ignore those injured people.
He’s not calling for more knife control, but he’s demanding
more control over guns. Perhaps one of these days Cuomo will remove his
head from his rear, look in the mirror, and realize that he’s not only a
hypocrite, but he is responsible for Gabay’s shooting. Cuomo’s laws
ensured that no one in the vicinity of the criminal who pulled the
trigger was armed and able to stop him. The bad guy was literally
shooting fish in a barrel.
