Man shot trying to stop robbery in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn.- A St. Paul man remains in critical condition after he was shot while apparently trying to break up a robbery near the Light Rail Transit Green Line in St. Paul late Wednesday.
Officers were called to the LRT Station near Western and University around 10 p.m.Wednesday on a call of a shooting, but the victim had already been taken to a nearby hospital by his girlfriend. He is reported in critical condition.
St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders confirms for KARE 11 that the victim was a passenger in a car being driven by his girlfriend heading east on University when they noticed a group of teens who appeared to be robbing a man. The woman honked the horn attempting to chase off the teens, but when they didn't stop the apparent robbery her boyfriend and another person got out and approached the group. That's when the boyfriend was shot in the upper body.
Linders says the victim's daughter was also in the car at the time of the shooting.
The Green Line Rail line was completely shut down for a number of hours while police investigated. Service was re-started for Thursday morning's commute, but delays will likely remain due to investigators on the scene.
Police are interviewing witnesses at Regions, including those who drove victim to hospital.
At this time no suspects are in custody.
No arrests have been made.
