A man has been attacked by a shark while surfing north of Forster on the NSW mid-north coast.

Ambulances were called to
Black Head Beach at around this morning after a man suffered "reasonably
superficial" injuries to his leg from a shark bite.
Due to the remote area of
the beach, 4WD ambulances were needed to reach the man and a Westpac
rescue helicopter has been called to airlift him to hospital.
Ambulance officers have upgraded his leg injuries to serious and are waiting for the helicopter to airlift him to hospital.
