Irete Automous Community protests the menace of Fulani Herdsmen in their community

The people of Irete Automous Community in Owerri West L.G.A of Imo State barricaded the Onitsha-Owerri dual carriage way this morning, to express their grievances over the continued menace of Fulani Herdsmen in their community. All their farm crops have been destroyed by the grazing cattle and all peaceful efforts to stop them failed. Just yesterday, a group of young ladies and women from Irete, who went to farm were striped of their clothings, cash, cellphone and other valuables by Fulani herdsmen, who attacked them with deadly weapons ranging from dagas, swords, guns etc. Secondly, we also learnt that some of them were raped by the herdsmen but choose to hide it because of shame and stigma. The question on every lips is if we actually have a government that cares! Enough is Enough and the time is NOW!"
Under our nose, in our very eyes, at our backyard, this happens. This act is remininisent with the rapes of Biafran women by the then Hausa/Fulani army in 1968-70. God bear us witness, Imo state does not share a common boundary with Hausa/Fulani. There is no reason why their cows should graze in our land without authorization from the government and land owners. This is an invasion and a criminal violation of our land and women. How long shall this unwarranted provocation continue?
They said we have so called leaders favoured in PDP administration. We have a president who answers all kind of Igbo names claiming to be one of us, yet he is stiff legged on issues affecting our lives. Our so called leaders our deaf, dumb and blind to our plights. My question is what worse could have befallen us if we had no Jonathan and his comrades from the South east?
Let our women rise now and take the lead to protect the dignity of their daughters. They should scream now or the youths will react and they will weep in vain and cry without consolation. From chiweta Celestine ofoma
