No Vogue prom this year! Rihanna
may have missed walking the 2016 Met Gala red carpet in a fabulous
look, but she wasn’t going to let anyone forget about her show-stopping
style. The Grammy winner was noticeably absent this year because she has
been gearing up for the California stops on her Anti tour.
The “Work” singer, 28, posted a
hilarious Instagram of four fans (who may or may not be drag queens)
impersonating her most iconic outfits on the streets of New York.
“Meanwhile in Times Square,” she captioned the pic.
RiRi rocked the
canary yellow dress with the huge train at the 2015 Met Gala for the
China: Through the Looking Glass theme. The head-to-toe green look,
topped with a fur coat, was from her 2015 iHeartRadio Awards
performance. She sported the teeny, blingy bikini at Barbados’ Crop Over
festival in 2015.
Finally, Rihanna stunned in the see-through, sparkly dress from the 2014 CFDA Awards. Earlier this year, Rihanna told Vogue
her only regret in life is “wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled”
under the see-through number. Instead, she opted for basic nude
underwear.
Cara Delevingne and Jennifer Lopez were also too busy to attend fashion’s biggest night of the year, and Gisele Bündchen opted out of the star-studded event for the second year in a row. Last year’s cochair and red carpet regular, Jennifer Lawrence,
skipped the 2016 Met Gala as well, leaving fans disappointed that they
wouldn’t get a glimpse of the star in a futuristic Dior gown. Another
major style star who was missing from the red carpet: Miley Cyrus. The pop star was visiting Australia with love Liam Hemsworth.
While most of the Kardashian-Jenner family traveled to New York for Anna Wintour’s event, Kourtney Kardashian vacationed in Miami and sister Khloé Kardashian laid low in Beverly Hills.
As for the missing men, Russell Wilson didn’t accompany fiancée Ciara and Jay Z let Beyoncé shine solo. “He’s done it before,” an insider previously told Us of Jay’s absence one week after Beyoncé’s massive Lemonade visual album sparked controversy over tracks about an unfaithful lover. “There’s just no big reason for him to go.”
