The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster
announced alongside this year's new game in the series, Infinite
Warfare, on 2 May, won't be sold separately as a standalone product. The
remastered version of Infinity Ward's 2007 classic will only be
available to those who buy the new game, which is set for release on 4
November.
Activision confirmed the news in a FAQ posted on its support site following the announcement, stating plainly: "You must own Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in order to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered."
To get the remaster players will need
to purchase either the Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe editions of
Infinite Warfare. It's hardly unexpected news, but we wouldn't rule out
an eventual standalone release further down the line, once the game has
served its purpose as an incentive to buy Infinite Warfare.
The FAQ also confirms that Call of Duty
vets Raven (which has never developed a full entry in the series but
has worked on many of them) is developing the remaster with Infinite
Warfare developers Infinity Ward acting as executive producers.
As expected, stats from the original game
won't carry over, it will be a digital download and the game will enjoy
dedicated servers for its multiplayer. Three of its 10 maps were also
confirmed to appear – Crash, Backlot and Crossfire.
