British boxer Amir Khan, who will be looking to be counted as one among the legends in boxing when he takes on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez this Saturday (7 May), wants Anthony Joshua to slow down and not rush things. Joshua beat Charles Martin to win the IBF world heavyweight title earlier this year and is being tipped to fight fellow countryman Tyson Fury, assuming that Fury wins his bout against Wladimir Klitschko.
Khan believes Joshua should take his time and fight other competitors rather than go for the jugular and face Fury who is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Khan said: "It's been a bit of a rush for Joshua. They have to be careful, next year will be soon enough for him to fight Fury. It's all in the timing, if it's all going so great you can lose perspective."
"That can be dangerous, it happened to me a bit. I thought I could go to war with anyone out there and I got caught out a couple of times. That was good for me. It reminded me that I'm only where I am because of boxing, it's good to be young and hungry and ambitious. But you must beware of getting your head. You must not lose your humility. I learned that lesson."
Khan who is scheduled to face Alvaraz at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, had to wait for this fight with both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao refusing to fight him. Despite the setbacks, the Brit has got his big chance and he says it is patience and belief that have helped him through tough times in life.
"I'd had my share of big fights and I held on to the belief that the mega-fight would come. Now it's happened just as I've reached my prime. It's the timing."
